Rewrite the draft below for {{audience}}. The purpose of the new version is to {{purpose}}.

Keep:
- every fact, number, name and date exactly as in the draft;
- any commitment or caveat, even if it makes the text longer.

Change:
- vocabulary, sentence length and order, to suit the reader;
- tone, to be {{tone}}.

After the rewrite, add a short list called "Check these" with any sentence where the rewrite might have shifted the meaning, quoting the original next to the new version.

Draft:
"""
{{draft}}
"""

Words in double braces are placeholders. Replace them before you send the prompt, here or in your tool.

Is it the right prompt?

Use it when

  • A technical note needs to reach a non-technical reader, or the other way round.
  • You are reusing one text for several audiences.

Skip it when

  • The text has legal or contractual force; rewording can change obligations.
  • The original author has not agreed to their text being reworked.

How to adapt it

There is a word limit
Add "in at most N words" to the first line and ask what was cut.
Your organisation has a style guide
Paste its key rules under Change.

Check the answer

Before you rely on the result, confirm that:

  • Every number, date and name in the rewrite matches the draft.
  • No caveat or commitment from the draft is missing.
  • The Check these list exists, even if it says nothing changed.

Watch out for

  • Accuracy Simplifying can turn "may" into "will". Read the rewrite against the original, not on its own.
  • Rights and licensing Only rewrite text you are allowed to adapt.
